Hook: What kind of barriers do people build between themselves and God?

Book: John cleared up any confusion about his role by pointing to Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. It had been revealed to John that Jesus would be the ultimate Sacrificial Lamb who would deal with sin once and for all (see Isaiah 53:12). The death of Jesus would remove the barrier of sin existing between God and man since the Garden of Eden. People can try what they may, but only Jesus has the ability to take away sin. That is why faith in Him is essential.
