Hook: What is the meanest thing someone has done to you?

Book: The way this woman was treated went beyond unfairness—it was mean. She was probably set up. The man was given a pass, and the entire matter was made public in order to trap Jesus in debate. They would abuse her to accomplish their selfish goals. The trap merely exposed their agenda, so they had to walk away. Jesus did not condone the woman’s sin but considered the unfairness and responded with truth and grace. While they demanded retaliation, Jesus longed for restoration.
