CommentsLiar, Liar, Pants on Fire!
Hook: What are some creative ways you lead people to believe something that is not true?
Book: “Liar, liar, pants on fire!” goes the children’s saying. That may be truer than you think
(Revelation 21:8; 22:15). The first-century practice of taking an oath in such a way that it would not be binding was replaced by Jesus with simple truth-telling. Jesus took lying seriously since it violated the character of God—He is truth. Any deception beyond a simple “yes” or “no” comes from Satan. You can depend on God’s truth, and others should be able to trust your words as well.
Took: How has bending the truth or lying become a part of your life? Why is lying so damaging to relationships? How would life change if you simply let your “Yes” be “Yes” and your “No,” “No”?
